About Us.

Emergences Labs builds infrastructure for evaluating AI-native work. Our product, NeoHuman, is a desktop-first challenge and proctoring system that observes how people use AI tools, software, files, and workflows during real tasks, then turns those sessions into reliable evaluation evidence.

We care about more than final answers. We want to understand the process — what tools someone used, what they typed, what they copied, what they verified, how they changed their work, and how they moved across apps. That trace becomes the foundation for AI competency evaluation, expert review, and high-quality training and evaluation data.

We are a small, research-driven team. Our published work includes the AgentIF-OneDay benchmark. We value demonstrated capability over credentials.

The Role.

We are looking for a Finance & Accounting Intern who can own day-to-day bookkeeping and financial operations while leveraging AI tools to do the work of a much larger team.

This is not a coffee-fetching internship — you'll touch real numbers, real systems, and ship real automations. If you're an undergrad curious about how startups actually run their books and excited to use LLMs to eliminate grunt work, we want to talk.

What You'll Do.

Core Bookkeeping

Categorize transactions, reconcile accounts, maintain the general ledger, and assist with month-end close.

Accounts Payable and Receivable

Process invoice review, manage vendors, and run payments.

Financial Reporting

Help prepare monthly financial reports, cash flow tracking, and basic variance analysis.

Expense Management

Process receipts, handle employee reimbursements, and reconcile expenses.

Tax and Compliance

Track sales tax, prep 1099s, and keep audit-ready documentation.

Models and Dashboards

Build and maintain financial models and dashboards in spreadsheets.

AI Automation

Use Claude, ChatGPT, and similar tools to automate reconciliation, parse invoices and receipts, draft journal entry explanations, summarize transaction categories, write formulas and scripts, and produce first drafts of financial commentary.

Documentation

Document processes so the next intern — and our future hires — can build on what you ship.

What We're Looking For.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.

Solid grasp of basic accounting principles — debits and credits, accruals, the three financial statements.

Strong spreadsheet skills — formulas, lookups, pivot tables. Scripting experience is a bonus.

Genuine fluency with AI tools. You already use Claude or ChatGPT in your daily workflow, have opinions about what works, can write a clear prompt, iterate on outputs, and know when not to trust the model.

High attention to detail — accounting is unforgiving about typos.

Self-directed and comfortable working remotely with async communication.

Discretion with sensitive financial information.

Nice to Have.

Experience with QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Ramp, Brex, or similar tools.

Familiarity with Python, SQL, or Apps Script for automating workflows.

Prior internship, bookkeeping, or treasurer-type experience — clubs count.

Working toward CPA eligibility.

What You'll Get.

Direct mentorship from our finance lead and exposure to startup operations end-to-end.

A real budget of AI tooling and the autonomy to use it.

Concrete deliverables you can point to — automations you built, models you owned, processes you redesigned.

Competitive hourly compensation.

A strong reference and a foot in the door for full-time consideration.
